Acknowledgments

The technical development of PhiloBiblon has depended almost entirely

on generous support from the National Endowment

for the Humanities (NEH) for more than twenty years.

Additional NEH grants funded data entry for BETA, BIPA, and BITAGAP:

RC-21708-89 (1989-91) (Faulhaber, PI). Focused on data entry for BETA and the elaboration of PhiloBiblon into a full-fledged relational database system with ten tables.

RT-21265-91 (1991-93) (Faulhaber, PI). The focus shifted to the transcription of machine-readable texts for the Archivo Digital de Manuscritos y Textos Españoles (ADMYTE) in addition to the preparation of PhiloBiblon and its component bibliographies for release as part of the ADMYTE CD-ROM disk. This included the redaction of a 75-page manual and its translation into Spanish.

RG-20004-92 (1992-93) (Askins, PI). Emphasis on BITAGAP, focusing on direct consultation of primary source materials, both new and previously reported.

RT-21641-94 (1994-95) (Askins, Faulhaber PIs). The provision of multi-lingual capabilities for the PhiloBiblon user interface, searching, and display of data as well as enhancement of the report generators.

PA 23025-97 (1997-98) (DiFranco and Labrador, PIs). Focused on BIPA, with support for data input of the incipits from the corpus of Spanish Golden Age poetry, beginning first with data prepared manually on card files in an earlier version of the project.

PA-23362-99 (1999-2000) (DiFranco and Labrador, PIs). Focused on BIPA, with support for data input of the incipits from the corpus of Spanish Golden Age poetry, adding materials from direct consultation of the original manuscripts.

PA-23523-00 (2000-2001) (Faulhaber and Askins, PIs). Upgrade of PhiloBiblon software from DOS to Windows.

PA 23787-01 (DiFranco and Labrador, PIs). Focused on BIPA. Data entry from 737 new sources (231 manuscripts and 506 printed books and chap-books) held at forty-nine libraries located in thirty-seven cities. With this material, 83,992 new records were created.

PM-50038-07 (2007-2010) (Faulhaber, PI). Enhancement of PhiloBiblon Windows software and upgrade of ten-year-old PhiloBiblon web site.

PW-51633-14 (2014-2015) (Faulhaber, PI). Enhancement of PhiloBiblon Windows software and upgrade of PhiloBiblon web site; establishment of a mirror site in Spain; organization of a PhiloBiblon workshop in the summer of 2015.

1990-2011 (Beltran or Avenoza, PIs). Secretaría de Estado de Investigación. Subprograma de Proyectos de Investigación Fundamental no orientada (PB90-53, PB93-758, PB96-1235, PB98-1170, BFF2002-00052, HUM2005-00178, FFI2008-03882). These grants, dedicated to the study of primary sources, allowed access to and study of numerous library and archival collections in Spain, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, the East Coast of the U.S., as well as a few in Germany. They also made possible data entry and the adaptation of BITECA to different platforms. Besides this, the last series of grants made possible the creation of a general corpus of poetry in Catalan.

2001 (Beltran and Avenoza, PIs). Beca Alòs Moner. Institut d'Estudis Catalans. Dedicated to updating of collections of poetry.

2007-2009 (Beltran and Avenoza, PIs). Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua. This grant not only made it possible to hire a graduate research student for data entry, especially for materials having to do with Valencian works and libraries; it also allowed more study of primary sources and the verification of data taken from secondary sources.

The 2007-2010 NEH grant received matching support from the L.J. Skaggs and Mary C. Skaggs Foundation and the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation. In 2009 grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Fundación Ignacio Larramendi made it possible to enhance the underlying Windows database version by adding robust reporting and search tools as well as context-specific help.

The 2014-2015 NEH grant also received financial support from the Pine Tree Foundation.
